Founders Eric Raff and Dave Beck met while working for a construction company in Silicon Valley. Despite differing backgrounds (Raff with a degree in Economics and Beck a degree in Construction Management) the two shared a desire to start their own construction company, one focused on excellence in all aspects of its work. They started XL Construction in 1992, using a name that emphasized this commitment.
"Our focus was to deliver excellence in customer service, creative solutions and consistent quality better than anyone else. It was that passion that really brought us together to create the company," Raff, cofounder, explains.
XL Construction quickly found a niche market in the advanced technology construction industry and grew to encompass biotech, healthcare, education and mission critical. The company's clients include life sciences companies such as Genentech, technology companies like Google and Apple, and large healthcare organizations such as Kaiser Permanente.
